Waikiki

We awoke to a warm day around 80F.  The sun rose over Diamondhead Crater, which is partially visible from our hotel balcony in Waikiki, a 'borough' if that's the right term of Honolulu.  We also overlook the Ala Wai Canal which is a large storm runoff collector.  A golf course is located across the canal.  After a 2-part breakfast - Starbucks and the wiki wiki (very small) one at the hotel, we set out for Waikiki Beach, stopping at a number of shops along the short 5 block route.  The beach was packed, but not too crowded with young, old and in between folks of all sizes shades of tan and nationalities.  After a beach walk, some sun worshipping, a pina colada smoothie and a dip, we had lunch at the Moana Surfrider Hotel (posh) overlooking the beach with a Hawaiian duo serenading.  A bit more shopping followed and then back to the hotel to rest up for the Luau at Paradise Cove.
